I 've been playin' electric guitar since early 90`s. Not like most of the talented musician who starts playin' instrument at the early age, I picked up guitar almost after I left my high school. I took lesson only for the first grade... then , I quit!!! I found that it was too boring to go through all these lesson taught by most of the music school.
The best way of learnin' music is still by self-taught. In the beginnin', I had only a basic theory of music...but then, I started lookin' for other good musician around. The second best way of learning music is by havin' professional musician in your learning environment. This will make your learning process faster.
Since then, I�started gain knowledge by self taught myself through books, listening and jamming in the studio. It is time takin' in the first stage of learnin' coz' every fingers need to be practice hours after hours....
The first song that makes me stick to this beautiful expression instrument is " ..to live is to die ".. by Metallica in '...and justice for all's album. That was my first heavy metal song that I was dyin' to be abled to play it.
Kirt Hammet was my first guitar hero.. and I�started learn most of the scales and how to apply all these scales on the composition. Since then, I�started listening to Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Marty Friedman, Steve Vai.. and all the guitar instrumentalist out there.
I always self taught myself by listening to them. How to create a sound based on certain scales is always givin' me lots of interest. Since then, I�know how to use modes on scales .. I know pentatonic, blues, harmonic minor, and plus other exotic scales such as Japanese, Jawa, Chinese, Arabian, Hinduism scales.. All these exotic scales are based on their ancient musical instruments.
After playin' with all these scales.. I have come through a scale that I�really like most due to its futuristic and unique sound. It is called Lydian scales. This is the mostly used by Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. It's derived by the major scale with the sharpen 4th on any major scale notes. I always mix any kind of scale on music and I love to improvise to get somethin' different in terms of sound and musical arrangements.
Electric guitar is a unique instrument with lots of expression. Techniques are the most important role in expressin' our feeling through guitars.. I always love a guitar with a floatin' bridge system so, I am able to control the sound of the string more like a voice and it really give me more flexibility in playin'.
Honestly, I'm still no good compare to all those giant rock guitarist in the world. They have such a great talent and self discipline. And most of them, practice 8 -12 hours per day... which is impossible for me to do that.
Well.. I'm not a serious guitarist but I always admire any musicians coz ' I know how they put their time and effort in order to improve the music in this universe.
